Software Engineering Excellence Lead (m/f/d)

As being the Software Engineering Excellence Lead (m/f/d) within R&D Software Solutions your focus is to foster software engineering and technical excellence, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Together with the Cyber Security Lead and the Software Quality Assurance Lead, you form the center of Software Engineering Excellence to continuously strengthen our best-in-class software development teams, spanning across Munich and Gurugram/India, focusing on efficiency and effectiveness to meet our business goals in a fast paced environment. While you value agile principles, your focus is on the technical 'How'.

Your Responsibilities:

• Elevate Developer Experience: Design, provide solutions and advocate for a seamless, intuitive internal developer ecosystem that minimizes cognitive load and friction, fosters technical excellence and “developer joy”
• Optimize Software Development Flow: Drive systemic efficiency by identifying and eliminating bottlenecks within the end-to-end delivery lifecycle. Establish key performance indicators (like DORA) that provide actionable insights for teams to enhance throughput, ensure a resilient, predictable, high-velocity flow from ideation to production
• Driving Engineering Standards and Best Practices: Partner with engineering teams to share best practices, standardize and innovate in architecture, code quality and testing. You define the "Golden Path" for maintainability and the secure utilization of AI-augmented development
• Pioneer AI-Augmented & Agentic Workflows: Accelerate the adoption of AI Copilots while leading the transition from traditional coding to a spec-driven, agentic development flow. Drive the change in enabling engineers to shift their focus toward high-level system design, complex problem-solving, and strategic architectural decisions
• Strategy & Innovation: Develop and execute the Software Engineering Excellence strategy and roadmap , balancing long-term roadmaps with rapid prototyping of new internal tools
• Collaboration: Work closely with the software engineers and agile teams, DevOps, Agile Coaches, and other stakeholders in an inclusive, appreciative environment. Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, mutual learning and technical mentorship

Your Profile:

• Proven Engineering Background: Master’s degree in computer science and a strong track record as a senior software engineer and architect, with deep expertise in modern tech stacks (we develop Embedded, On-Premise Enterprise Customer Solutions, as well as Cloud-native SaaS)
• "Builder" Mentality: You possess a passion for internal tooling and developer productivity. You prefer "showing" over "telling" and are comfortable diving into a codebase
• AI & Agentic Proficiency: You are at the forefront of AI-assisted development. You have practical experience with AI Copilots and a deep understanding of LLM integration, prompt engineering, or building agentic chains
• Data-Driven Optimization: You are proficient in using metrics to drive change. You have experience implementing and interpreting DORA metrics or similar frameworks to identify systemic bottlenecks and measure "Flow"
• Empathetic & Collaborative Leadership: You understand that technical excellence cannot be forced. You use empathy to understand developer pain points and "Strong Stakeholder Management" to align different teams toward a common engineering excellence vision
• Pragmatism over Perfectionism: You have the ability to balance the "ideal" technical solution with the practical needs of the business, ensuring that excellence always serves the goal of delivering value
• Change Management Catalyst: You have experience driving cultural shifts within engineering organizations, such as moving toward a "Spec-Driven" culture or implementing new organization-wide standards across R&D sites
• Very good written and spoken German and English skills
