G+D makes the lives of billions of people around the world more secure. We create trust in the digital age with integrated security technologies in three business areas: Digital Security, Financial Platforms and Currency Technology. We have been a reliable partner for our customers for over 170 years with our innovative solutions for SecurityTech! We are an international technology group and traditional family business with over 14,000 employees in 40 countries. Creating Confidence is our path to success. Trust is the basis of our co-operation within G+D.

The whole world trusts us when it comes to digital, physical or electronic payments. We increase the security and efficiency of the cash cycle in collaboration with central banks and the entire currency industry.  As the market leader in advanced currency management, would you like to join us in shaping the future of payments?

To strengthen our architecture capabilities, G+D is seeking an experienced Solution Architect (m/f/d) with a strong focus on database and data engineering. In this role, you will support the evolution of our software solutions portfolio—ranging from high-performance banknote processing systems to SaaS offerings—used by leading central and commercial banks worldwide.

You will design scalable and resilient data(-base) architectures across on-premises and cloud environments, integrating classical relational database systems with modern data lake and analytics architectures on Azure. Working closely with development teams, Product Management, and other stakeholders, you will ensure that data platforms meet functional, non-functional, and regulatory requirements.

A key aspect of this role is hands-on collaboration with engineering teams: validating architectural decisions through prototypes, defining reusable patterns and reference architectures, and supporting the implementation and evolution of both relational database platforms and modern data lake solutions.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and validate scalable data models and storage concepts across relational and NoSQL technologies.
  • Guide teams in adopting modern cloud data patterns (e.g. lakehouse, event-driven data flows, API-centric services) and ensure architectural consistency across data products.
  • Define and oversee batch and streaming data pipelines to enable secure, reliable, and efficient data ingestion, transformation, and distribution.
  • Ensure data governance, security, privacy, and compliance in alignment with internal policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead proof-of-concepts to evaluate and validate emerging technologies for data integration, analytics, and cloud-based data management.
  • Collaborate with development teams in Munich and India across all phases of the product development lifecycle, supporting architecture-driven decisions from ideation through deployment and operations.
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Service, Security, and Legal to translate business, operational, and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable, and secure architectural solutions.

Your requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, or platform architecture roles.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing Azure-based data solutions (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Event Hub).
  • Strong expertise in relational database systems (e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL technologies (e.g. MongoDB).
  • Solid understanding of modern data architectures, including data lakes, lakehouse concepts, and event-driven data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with batch and streaming data integration technologies (e.g. ETL tools, Kafka, Azure Event Hub).
  • Deep technical knowledge of data modeling, performance optimization, partitioning, indexing, and scaling strategies.
  • Familiarity with analytics, BI, data governance, or ML-related platforms is a plus.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with globally distributed and cross-functional teams.
