G+D is looking for a Product Owner (PO) to drive the development and technical strategy of the Compass VMS product. Compass VMS is the market leading cash centre workflow product, including deep functionality which enables the digitalisation of cash centre processes. The product is used by central banks, commercial banks and cash in transit (CIT) businesses around the world.


G+D has a strategy to modernise and modularise Compass VMS. This new Product Owner (PO) role is critical for helping define that strategy in detail and translating into an operational, tangible plan. The PO focuses primarily on defining and delivering the technology roadmap for Compass VMS, in line with the modularisation strategy, and planning and driving the development teams towards high quality releases on time and within budget. The PO is responsible for ensuring efficient processes and appropriate prioritisation and planning of new features, non-functional improvements, customer change requests and problem fixes.  The PO will work alongside a Product Manager, who will be responsible for pre-sales, post-sales, competitor/market analysis, and who will be the primary point of contact from business stakeholders. The Product Manager will be the functional lead for strategic projects such as modularisation, with the Product Owner responsible for the technology aspect. This position reports to the Head of Product Management.


Duties & Responsibilties

  • Setting up and driving an Agile team for core product development of Compass VMS
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, in particular the Technology team, to drive strategy and delivery of topics such as Azure Cloud, REST APIs, authentication (OpenID Connect / OAuth, LDAP), security (OWASP, Open Source), performance optimization and others
  • Identifying opportunities to improve the technical capability of Compass VMS
  • Defining the technical roadmap to modernise and modularise Compass VMS, gathering input from a wide range of stakeholders
  • Creating, maintaining and prioritising a backlog in line with the business priorities, and playing the Agile Product Owner role to translate these into delivery
  • Helping to drive a cultural change into an Agile organisation
  • Managing a diverse range of stakeholders – Product Manager, Architects, Technology, Business Line management, local management, senior management
  • Supporting the Product Manager on pre-sales topics as needed

  • Ability to quickly identify technical issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Definition of a clear technology roadmap, in alignment to wider modernisation and modularisation objectives, working in co-operation with technology team
  • Ability to gain buy in from appropriate stakeholders
  • Delivery of new releases meeting timeline, scope, budget and quality expectations
  • Creation and maintenance of a high quality backlog, incorporating strategic priorities
  • Quality of agreed deliverables
  • Feedback from stakeholders


Job Requirements

  • Understanding of Agile principles, and experience setting up and running Agile teams (Scrum or Kanban)
  • Experience in modernising a complex software product
  • Product Owner experience – maintaining a backlog and roadmap, translating business requirements to the development team, enforcing high standards re. definition of ready, definition of done
  • Experience in the challenge of dealing with highly diverse customer requirements, and the question of core vs customisation
  • Deep understanding and experience of technical concepts including (but not limited to) Azure Cloud, REST APIs, authentication (OpenID Connect / OAuth, LDAP), security (OWASP, Open Source), performance optimization
  • Understanding of how to modularise a monolithic product using micro-service-based architecture
  • Management of diverse stakeholders, sometimes with conflicting interests
  • Comfortable working in a complex, changing environment
  • Experience working in a global team
  • Ability to present in a clear, confident, structured manner to diverse (culture and seniority) audiences
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently organise tasks and actions in a matrix organisation
