JOB SUMMARY
The Press Helper assists the Lead Press Operator in the operation and maintenance of their assigned press. Ensure raw materials are loaded into feeder to supply a constant flow of materials while the equipment is running. Make adjustments to equipment such as feeder mechanism based on the size of stock. Deliver equipment components such as plates or other materials to the equipment for installation. Recycle old/discarded plates. Provide basic assistance as needed to make-ready the equipment for operation. Assist with retrieving plates, hanging plates and recycling/storing plates and other tasks associated with make-ready of the plates. Help with wash-up, general maintenance and housekeeping.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrates commitment to safety and performs job duties in accordance with company safety policies and procedures
- Demonstrates commitment to quality product to conform to company standards and client requirements
- Understand job ticket information to determine quantity, special work instructions, and any other special customer requirements
- Stage material and supplies needed to run printing job
- Feeds stock during press run and operates continuous feeder in an efficient manner. Assist the operator in press setups and maintain high production efficiencies
- Complete required quality inspections and paperwork
- Work with peers and other departments to improve quality and performance
- Play an active role in the maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned press and surrounding area
- Understand department communication systems, schedules, time/attendance system and job reporting requirements
- Actively participate in Lean manufacturing initiatives
- Supplies chemicals on press and keeps up to standard. Checks PH and conductivity of fountain solution
- Wash up press during change over, or final end of shift wash up, including impression cylinders, blanket wash blades, wash up pans, ink knives, gum plates if required etc
- Follows all safety policies and directs safety of crew. Keeps abreast of MSDS program, Lockout/Tagout and direct the proper handling/disposal of hazardous chemicals
- Cleans area prior to the next shift starting and performs all required preventative maintenance
- Throw loads or have loads flipped for press
- Get plates ready for next job and fix plates also on press
- Maintain a clean work area and keep press clean. Wash back cylinders at the end of shift with operator
- Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school education or equivalent
- At least 2 years of related experience as a press feeder in a manufacturing or production environment
- Able to operate hand carts, pallet jacks, stackers
- Ability to handle potentially hazardous materials
- Must possess high standards of personal integrity. Able to interact with all levels of the organization
- Ability to follow instructions to assist in operation and maintenance
- Ability to work independently with high attention to detail
- Able to work overtime when needed
- The ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language
- Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Positive attitude and good teamwork skills
- Pass a drug test, and criminal background check prior to employment
PREFERRED
- Ability to follow instructions to assist in press set up, operation and maintenance
- Ability to work independently with high attention to detail
- Able to work overtime when needed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Requires normal color perception
- Requires working on hard floor – standing, sitting, walking, laying, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting and stooping for up to 12 hours per day
- Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds regularly with occasional lifting to upwards of 65 pounds
- Regular and consistent attendance
- Must be able to adapt to fluctuating temperatures
- Must be able to withstand loud noise
- Must be able to work while wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The pay range for this position is $20-$22/hr and is eligible for an annual bonus.
