JOB SUMMARY            

 

The Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for quality-related projects at the Bolingbrook, IL. Facility.

 

This dual-role position requires a strong combination of technical knowledge in quality engineering, excellent communication skills, and problem-solving expertise to effectively address supplier complaints. The role involves working closely with internal teams and suppliers to resolve quality concerns, optimize the quality management system, and contribute to quality control initiatives.

In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating and directing all incoming material inspections, managing the reject/quarantine process, and overseeing the supplier complaint process. Ensuring that all quality technicians are properly trained in material testing and inspection processes is also key. The role will participate in Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing events aimed at quality improvement, addressing client quality concerns, and performing root cause analysis to resolve quality issues.

 

 

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Assure all testing and evaluation processes related to incoming material is documented and all quality technicians are trained in the proper execution of the testing methodologies.
    • Assure that incoming material is evaluated in a timely manner in advance of it being needed in manufacturing.
    • Provide direction to quality technicians and quality inspectors as required.
    • Understand and become proficient in the correct methodologies to operate all testing gauges and quality tools.
    • Assure all Quality testing instrumentation is within required calibration schedule.
    • Update calibration stickers and assure all equipment has an accurate sticker applied.
    • Remove from service any improperly functioning test equipment, arrange for repair or replacement and notify the Quality Manager of status.
    • Manage the entire supplier nonconformance process from initiation to resolution..
    • Assure all non-qualified material follows established qualification testing and documentation processes
    • Work with Plant Management and Accounting to assure any and all financial damages relating to material/supplier issues are documented and communicated in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Direct and assure all nonconforming material is quarantined and or removed from the facility.
    • Conduct training in best practices related to quality management.
    • Train Inspectors, both permanent and temporary, on the applicable requirements and methods to verify product and process conformance.
    • Ensure Nonconforming Material Reports (NMRs) are created when nonconforming material/product is identified.
    • Attend daily production meetings and if unavailable assure quality personnel coverage
    • Review statistical data from production lines to identify quality issues and work with responsible department leaders to eliminate any problems.
    • Collaborate with plant management and accounting to document and communicate any financial impacts due to supplier or material issues. Conduct and report ISO 9001 internal audits
    • Participate in the continuous improvement programs, focusing on defect reduction and quality enhancement. Provide technical input to production and customers related to quality.
    • Perform other related job duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline and/or a combination of college education and Engineering experience totaling 3 years.
    • Must be proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general engineering software solutions.
    • Must be able to effectively communicate in both written and verbal forms.
    • Proven experience in Supplier Quality Management, including supplier complaints, supplier audits and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Hands-on experience with testing methodologies, including the use of testing equipment, tools, and data analysis to ensure product compliance and quality standards. Strong practical skills within a Lean manufacturing environment are highly desirable.
    • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems.
    • Passionate about Lean Manufacturing and the attainment of key initiatives.
    • Strong data driven process and system methodologies.
    • Ability to hold self and others accountable.
    • Enjoys plant level, hands-on involvement in the improvement process.  Willing to roll up sleeves and spend time in the manufacturing plant.
    • Willingness to travel on occasion as needed.
    • Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment.  Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.  Requires normal color perception.

 

 

PREFERRED

    • Experience in the plastic card industry
    • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
