JOB SUMMARY 

 

The Production Supervisor oversees daily operations on the production floor to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met. This role leads a team of production employees, coordinates workflow, resolves issues in real time, and ensures production targets and deadlines are consistently achieved. 

 

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

 

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of production employees to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Monitor workflow, assign tasks, and manage labor to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment; enforce safety protocols and conduct regular safety checks.
  • Provide on-the-floor coaching, direction, and feedback to production staff; assist in performance evaluations and disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, equipment breakdowns, or delays in coordination with maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of production metrics, downtime, scrap, and other operational data.
  • Lead start-of-shift meetings and communicate daily goals and expectations clearly to the team.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to uphold product standards and quickly address quality concerns.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and encourage team engagement in problem-solving.
  • Manage timekeeping, attendance, and basic administrative tasks for team members.
  • Develop and execute daily production plans in alignment with overall schedules and priorities.
  • Manage short-term staffing levels based on production forecasts, shift requirements, and workload variations.
  • Oversee accurate and timely completion of shift reports, capturing key production data, downtime, quality issues, and safety concerns.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators—Safety, Quality, On-Time Delivery (OTD), and Output—to ensure operational targets are achieved.
  • Ensure that in-process and final quality checks are consistently performed and documented.
  • Promote and monitor the application of Lean Manufacturing tools and principles (such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and Standard Work) to eliminate waste, improve process efficiency, and sustain continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials and consumables.
  • Lead or participate in Quick Response Quality Control (QRQC) sessions to promptly address and resolve production issues.
  • Track and analyze hourly production performance to ensure alignment with established UPH targets.
  • Oversee onboarding and training of new employees to ensure they understand safety, quality, and operational standards. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • Associates degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred, or 5 years’ experience in manufacturing in lieu of degree
  • At least three (2) years' supervisory experience in a manufacturing/production setting 
  • Strong understanding of production processes, workflow management, and safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with production systems, ERP software, and basic Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to work flexible hours or shifts, including overtime, weekends, or holidays as required. 

 

PREFERRED 

 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is a plus.  
  • Experience in one of the following industries is a big plus - plastic cards, printing, bindery, and fulfillment. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

  • Requires sitting at a desk in front of a computer screen for 8 or more hours per day.
  • Requires visual acuity to operate a computer, read a computer screen, read policies and manuals
  • Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer, phone, fax, scanner
