Job Summary

The Buyer I is responsible for supporting purchasing and supply management activities for assigned categories including Value Added Packaging materials, printing paper, carriers, envelopes, stickers, operating supplies, and other indirect and direct materials.


This role focuses on executing day-to-day procurement transactions, managing supplier communications, maintaining inventory continuity, and supporting sourcing initiatives to ensure uninterrupted operations. The Buyer I works closely with Operations, Planning, Supplier Quality, Finance, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely material availability, accurate purchasing transactions, and effective supplier performance management.


The ideal candidate is an organized and detail-oriented procurement professional with strong analytical skills, SAP experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing environment.

This role ensures seamless continuity of procurement operations during an 18‑month maternity leave period.


Responsibilities

1.   Procurement (80%)

  • Execute day-to-day purchasing activities for assigned materials and suppliers.
  • Create, manage, and maintain Purchase Orders (POs) within SAP and SRM, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Monitor supplier order acknowledgements and follow up on delivery commitments.
  • Support RFQ activities, supplier evaluations, bid comparisons, and sourcin projects led by senior buyers or management.
  • Assist in negotiating pricing, delivery schedules, and service requirements within established guidelines.
  • Maintain purchasing records, contracts, vendor information, and procurement documentation.
  • Monitor supplier performance and escalate delivery, quality, or service issues as required.
  • Support cost reduction and process improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Planning, Operations, Client Services, Quality, and Finance to resolve supply issues and support business requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and purchasing controls.

2.   Supply Chain & Inventory Management (20%)

  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in replenishment activities to ensure uninterrupted supply.
  • Review material requirements, usage trends, and reorder parameters within SAP.
  • Follow up on late deliveries and expedite orders when required.
  • Support inventory accuracy initiatives and cycle count investigations.
  • Assist in identifying excess, obsolete, or slow-moving inventory and recommend corrective actions.
  • Contribute to routine reporting for inventory levels, supplier performance, and procurement metrics.
  • Participate in supply-related issue resolution and continuous improvement activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

  • Comply with all G+D Environmental, Health & Safety policies.
  • Adhere to Corporate Compliance and Procurement governance standards.
  • Assist with import/export documentation and logistics coordination as needed.
  • Support procurement, inventory, and supply chain projects assigned by management.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within Purchasing and Supply Chain.

Qualifications, Experience and Educational Requirements


Work Experience:

  • Two (2) to Four (4) years of Purchasing, Procurement, Supply Chain, Materials Management, or related experience.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of procurement and supply chain processes.
  • Experience with SAP MM, purchasing systems, or ERP platforms preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on deliverables.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive supplier and stakeholder relationships.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a customer-service mindset.
  • Progress toward SCMP designation or equivalent certification is considered an asset.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or equivalent.

 

Work Experience:

  • Office-based 5 days per week with potential for travel.
  • May require evening or weekend work to meet deadlines.
