Security Designer Documents (m/f/d)

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Security Designer (m/f/d) to join our team within the ID Documents domain. In this role, you will be responsible for designing secure and visually sophisticated identity documents, such as passports, ID cards, driver’s licenses, and certificates that require advanced security features.

Your work will combine aesthetic excellence with state-of-the-art security technologies, ensuring the highest level of protection against counterfeiting while meeting international standards, customer requirements, and production constraints.

Your Responsibilities:

• Design and develop high-security layouts and visual concepts for identity documents
• Create, integrate, and optimize overt, covert, and forensic security features, including Guilloches, fine-line structures, Microtext and latent images
• Optical security features such as holograms and color-shifting inks
• Collaborate closely with security experts, R&D, and production teams to ensure compliance with international standards and internal production and security guidelines
• Coordinate and complete design drafts across different departments and entities within the VD and G+D Group
• Develop innovative design concepts that balance security, functionality, production feasibility, and visual appeal
• Prepare detailed design specifications for printing, personalization, and manufacturing processes
• Create and manage production-ready and CTP-compatible visual files, ensuring manufacturability and quality consistency
• Transfer design concepts into defined security frames and document architectures
• Transform grayscale images into line drawings, illustrations, typographic elements, and structured image datasets suitable for security printing
• Support tender and customer projects by contributing design concepts, samples, and visual presentations when required
• Stay up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and threats in document security and anti-counterfeiting
• Ensure strict adherence to confidentiality, security policies, and quality standards

Your Profile:

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Security Printing or a related field
• Proven professional experience in design or a related field
• Relevant professional experience in Security document design or High-security printing and document production environments
• Proven experience in the design and integration of security features, including guilloches, microtext, fine-line patterns, and optical security elements
• Strong knowledge of security printing techniques, materials, and anti-counterfeiting technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign
• High attention to detail and the ability to work with complex vector graphics, fine graphical structures, and security-relevant layouts
• Good understanding of production and personalization processes, such as experience in preparing production-ready and prepress files, ensuring compliance with internal guidelines and manufacturing constraints
• Structured, reliable, and solution-oriented working style, with the ability to translate security and customer requirements into robust design solutions
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under strict confidentiality requirements
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary and international teams
• Fluency in German and English is required, additional languages are a plus
• Willingness to travel internationally up to 20%
• Willingness for an extended security check (Ü2) 

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with ID documents, including passport data pages and polycarbonate cards
• Understanding of color theory and typography in secure document design
• Knowledge of international security standards and regulations for identity documents (e.g. ICAO, ISO).
• Experience working on international tender projects, including preparation of design concepts, samples, or visual presentations
• Ability to work in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment, within international project teams
