IT Infrastructure Operations Engineer (m/f/d)

We are looking for an experienced IT Infrastructure Operations Engineer (m/f/d) with strong hands-on expertise in enterprise storage, SAN technologies, backup and recovery, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

In this role, you will take ownership of critical infrastructure components throughout their lifecycle, from provisioning and configuration to monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, and continuous improvement.

You will join an international, interdisciplinary infrastructure team and collaborate closely with security specialists, network engineers, cloud teams, and technology partners.

Your Responsibilities

• Enterprise Storage & SAN Administration: Take technical ownership of enterprise storage environments, including storage array administration, LUN provisioning and allocation, capacity management, and Fibre Channel SAN fabric operations. Configure and maintain FC switches, zoning, firmware, and storage connectivity.
• Enterprise Backup & Recovery: Administer, monitor, and optimize enterprise backup and recovery solutions, particularly Commvault. Manage backup jobs, retention policies, restore operations, and recovery validation to ensure compliance with defined RPO/RTO requirements and disaster recovery readiness.
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux Administration: Operate, configure, secure, and maintain our RHEL server fleet, including OS patching, lifecycle management, kernel tuning, security hardening, and host-level storage integration using HBAs, multipathd, LVM, and filesystems.
• Infrastructure Automation: Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and scripts to automate Linux provisioning, OS maintenance, configuration management, and recurring storage and backup operational tasks.
• End-to-End Infrastructure Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex technical incidents across Linux servers, storage arrays, SAN fabrics, backup platforms, monitoring systems, and supporting infrastructure services.
• Monitoring & Proactive Operations: Monitor infrastructure health, storage capacity, backup success rates, performance metrics, and system alerts. Identify potential problems early and implement preventive measures to maintain service availability.
• Datacenter & Hardware Operations: Perform regular hands-on work in our enterprise datacenters, including installation, racking, cabling, maintenance, hardware replacement, and troubleshooting of physical server and storage components.
• Infrastructure Lifecycle & Standards: Plan and implement server, storage, and SAN lifecycle activities, including firmware and software upgrades, infrastructure modernization, and improvements to high availability, resilience, and operational standards.
• Performance & Reliability Optimization: Identify bottlenecks across compute, network fabric, and storage layers. Drive improvements in performance, scalability, automation, and infrastructure reliability.
• IT Service Management: Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes, ensuring controlled infrastructure changes, effective root cause analysis, and compliance with operational and security requirements while minimizing service disruption.
• Documentation & Collaboration: Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, architecture diagrams, and troubleshooting runbooks. Share knowledge and collaborate with infrastructure, networking, security, and cloud engineering teams.

Your Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable technical qualification, combined with relevant professional experience.
• Enterprise Storage & SAN: Proven hands-on experience administering enterprise storage systems and Fibre Channel SAN environments, including storage provisioning, LUN management, zoning, fabric troubleshooting, and storage connectivity.
• Enterprise Backup & Recovery: Practical experience administering enterprise backup and recovery solutions, including backup monitoring, troubleshooting, retention management, and restore operations. Hands-on experience with Commvault is strongly preferred.
• Linux / RHEL Administration: Strong experience administering enterprise Linux environments, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including installation, configuration, patching, security hardening, performance troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
• Linux Storage Integration: Solid understanding of Linux storage configuration, including HBAs, multipathd, LVM, filesystems, and connectivity between Linux hosts and enterprise SAN storage.
• Automation & Scripting: Experience automating infrastructure operations and configuration management, preferably using Ansible, Bash, or Python.
• Physical Datacenter Operations: Willingness and practical ability to perform regular on-site datacenter activities, including rack installation, hardware replacement, structured cabling, and troubleshooting of physical server and storage infrastructure.
• Server & Virtualization Technologies: Hands-on experience with enterprise server hardware and virtualized environments, preferably VMware vSphere / ESXi.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Good understanding of redundancy, resilient infrastructure design, backup and recovery strategies, RPO/RTO concepts, and disaster recovery processes.
• Monitoring & Incident Response: Experience working with infrastructure monitoring and alerting solutions, interpreting performance data, and troubleshooting complex incidents across multiple infrastructure layers.
• IT Service Management: Familiarity with structured incident, problem, and change management processes, ideally in an ITIL-oriented enterprise environment.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a structured, independent, and reliable working approach.
• Service-oriented mindset, collaborative attitude, and good communication skills, including the willingness to mentor colleagues and share technical knowledge.
• Experience with Red Hat Satellite for patch management, system provisioning, and lifecycle management.
• Experience with enterprise storage replication, snapshots, and disaster recovery architectures.
• Experience automating storage or backup workflows through APIs, Ansible modules, or scripting.
• Knowledge of enterprise datacenter security, infrastructure hardening, and audit requirements.
• Familiarity with high-availability configurations across Linux, storage, and virtualization environments.
