Machine Technician

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure machinery readiness and uptime is maintined at the expected standard 
  • Provide set-up support to machine operators 
  • Troubleshoot and/or diagnose mechanical and/or electronic problems in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) standard practices and/or acceptable Giesecke+Devrient practices
  • Monitor spare parts inventory levels, source out and order spare parts, write Purchase Requisitions (PR) as needed to replenish parts, supplies and components
  • Ensure compliance with all production requirements are met in accordance with SLA 
  • Assist in planning all maintenance activities to improve processes and procedures in accordance to Giesecke+Devrient standards
  • Maintain all equipment according to OEM specfifcations 
  • Complete the "Preventative Maintenance Program" on equipment as scheduled and where necessary to achieve better perforamnce, reduce company risks, and comply with OH&S regulations
  • Provide ongoing support to departments for daily processing and equipment throughput 
  • Perform equipment changeovers, set ups and adjustments as required
  • Confer with programemrs to determine effective methods of programming work for machine processing
  • Use the Time Management System as per GDCAMS procedures 

 

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Install machinery and equipment 
  • Assemble and install elector/mechanical components and systems using hand tools, electrical testing instruments and soldering irons as per electrical schematic and/or basic wiring diagrams
  • Install software and hardware upgrades ina  timely manner to ensure functionality and ease of operation, consistent with the appropriate security measures and in conjunction with the Information Technology Team
  • Ensure that all equipment meets business requirements including autids, OH&S and security requirements in compliance with all Giesecke+Devrient, local and provincial/federal guidelines
  • Follow established company policies and procedures at all times, while performing work at Giesecke+Devrient facilities 
  • Ensure guards are in place and all safey devices are operating correctly 
  • Participate in plant safety programs
  • Communicate with all related functional groups as related to machine perforamnce, data management and integrity to comply with Giesecke+Devrient customer expectations
  • Complete all training, technical, maintenance and service requests
  • Perform routine diagnostic maintenance on all equipment in order to minimize failure 
  • Set up machines for specific formats and processing sequence to ensure maximum efficiency 
  • Respond to changes in requirements in accordance with company code of conduct and level of severity 
  • Maintain a professional, courteous manner with all vendors, contractors and fellow employees
  • Perform with a bias for effective team work, a strong work ethic, with friendliness and flexibilty
  • Assist in the monitoring of work being performed by outsidte Agents/Contractors/Technicians and ensure compliance with G+D standards and expectation 
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned 
  • Comply with G+D Environmental, Health & Safety policies, procedures and reports any Environmental, Health & Safety hazards, incidents and concerns to the immediate supervisor/manager. Management will ensure employees are provided with job specific Environmental, Health & Safety information, training and also ensure employees follow workplace Health & Safety policies and procedures.   

 

Qualifications, Experience and Educational Requirements

 

Work Experience:

  • 4-5 years experience as an Electromechanic Technician with strong aptitude for computer systems 

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents including mechanical/electrical drawings and manuals 
  • Ability to write detailed reports
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; billingual 
  • Must possess a strong electrical and mechanical aptitude along with experience related to electro-mechanical systems
  • Must be detailed oriented with a strong emphasis on data integrity and customer confidentiality
  • Extensive working knowledge of Computer Operating Systems and Applications 
  • General understanding of computers, computing networks, and operating systems  

 

Education:

  • Completion of Electro/Mechanical Course froma  recognized Technical Institute is preferred 
  • Degree in Electromechanic/Electronic Engineering would be an asset 

 

Working Conditions

  • Overtime may be required 
  • Fast paced manufacturing environment 
  • Ability to communicate via phone and email
  • Safety shoes and smock required on the production floor 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Manual dexterity around moving parts
  • Awareness around electro-mechanical power 
  • May be required to work long hours 
  • Good eyesight and good hand-eye coordination 
  • Ability to stand, kneel and bend for extended periods
