AWS Cloud Engineer – Database Administration

 

 

Role Overview

As an AWS Cloud Engineer with a Database specialization, you will be responsible for the reliability, performance, and lifecycle management of cloud databases running on AWS.

Your primary focus will be Oracle Database@AWS environments, including high availability, disaster recovery, performance optimization, and database automation. You will collaborate closely with application teams, platform engineers, and security teams to ensure robust and compliant database operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

AWS Cloud Operations

  • Operate AWS platform components supporting database workloads

  • Automate database provisioning and operations using Terraform and scripting

  • Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes

 

Database Administration

  • Manage and operate Oracle Database@AWS instances

  • Manage and operate Amazon RDS instances (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, etc.)

  • Configure and maintain high availability, failover mechanisms, and replication

  • Design and validate backup and restore strategies

  • Perform database performance analysis and query optimization

  • Conduct capacity planning and database upgrades

  • Implement database security controls, including encryption, RBAC, and auditing

 

Platform Collaboration

  • Support development teams with database migrations and schema changes

  • Work with security teams to ensure database compliance and hardening

  • Provide guidance on database architecture best practices

 

Skills & Experience

  • Several years of experience as a Database Administrator or Cloud Database Engineer

  • Strong expertise with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server)

  • Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and Amazon Aurora

  • Experience with Terraform and infrastructure automation

  • Strong knowledge of database performance tuning and HA/DR architectures

  • Experience working in regulated or security-sensitive environments
