The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, performance, and availability of database systems supporting business-critical applications and services. The role ensures that database platforms operate reliably, efficiently, and securely while meeting business, compliance, and service-level requirements.
The DBA works closely with Software Engineers, System Administrators, DevOps Engineers, and Architects to support production and development environments through database monitoring, performance tuning, backup and recovery, patch management, capacity planning, and troubleshooting. The role requires strong expertise in database technologies, operational excellence, automation, and data security practices.
Role accountabilities:
- Administer, maintain and optimize production database platforms (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL).
- Plan and execute database patching, upgrades and lifecycle management.
- Monitor database performance, capacity and availability, implementing corrective actions when required.
- Ensure backup, recovery and disaster recovery procedures are tested and maintained.
- Manage database security, user access controls, encryption and compliance requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents and provide L3 operational support.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, DevOps and Application teams to support business-critical services.
- Automate operational tasks and promote Infrastructure as Code and database automation practices.
- Develop and maintain operational standards, procedures and documentation.
- Evaluate new database technologies and cloud database services.
- Ensure data integrity, high availability and service continuity across all managed environments.
- Support audits and compliance activities related to database platforms.
