Position Overview:  

The Identity Card Operations Director is a leadership role responsible for overseeing all U.S. region identity card operations within high-security personalization & manufacturing centers. Issuance of identity cards is considered an essential Government service, this role assures our quality, security, availability, and delivery contract requirements are consistently met. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on and proactive leader with well-rounded operational experience managing production planning, facility operations, staff, quality, safety, inventory, delivery, and cost. As a detail-oriented, results-driven individual, you will play a crucial role in the Veridos America leadership team, contributing to the design, regional qualification, and launch of new card products. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Operations Management: Lead overall U.S. region card personalization services, supply chain, and operations to meet Identity Business Unit and contract SLAs. Manage the Bolingbrook card personalization production facility, including hardware, software, inventory, and personnel, while overseeing governance of other U.S. personalization facilities remotely. Represent manufacturing in design reviews and business proposals.
  • Production IT Management: Including machine setup, upkeep, and troubleshooting. Onboarding new clients, overseeing IT subcontractors. 
  • Supply Chain & Supplier Management: Manage relationships with applicable suppliers and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services within established budget. Resolve supply chain and quality issues impacting production, acting as the primary escalation point for operational issues.
  • Operational Planning & Compliance: Develop and implement optimal plans for operations, equipment, productivity, cost, capacity, and quality. Ensure adherence to established security policies and procedures, and collaborate with safety officers to maintain compliance with company standards and certifications.
  • Maintain Service Availability: Set and monitor system/equipment maintenance and uptime standards, addressing manufacturing issues, and coordinating with third-party support services as needed to assure continuous business operations. Establish and exercise disaster recovery plans, as well as High Availability synchronization of multiple personalization centers. 
  • Continuous Improvement & Reporting: Develop and report production/operations metrics to drive continuous improvement and provide updates to internal/external stakeholders. Document and maintain work instructions and procedures for manufacturing processes. Support internal and external audits and represent manufacturing in design reviews and business proposals.
  • Staff Leadership & Safety: Motivate and guide staff to maintain an efficient, safe, and productive work environment. Manage resources, provide status updates, and offer feedback to internal customers and management.

 

Required Experience:

  • At least 10 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, operations, or process engineering role within a manufacturing/industrial setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven track record in card production and support processes with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Experience identifying opportunities for performance enhancement.
  • Ability to conduct manufacturing yield, issue analysis, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Strong skills in monitoring operations and managing people with excellent communication abilities.
  • Experience with card personalization and insertion equipment, preferably from vendors like Entrust, Bell Howell, or Otto Kunnecke.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001, NASPO, PCI, and other relevant manufacturing standards.

 

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Lean Six Sigma, 5S, and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with Minitab or similar data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Understanding of printing techniques, plastic lamination technologies, and personalization technology.
  • Knowledge of production quality assurance procedures.
  • Ability to maintain material inventory accuracy and conduct system transactions.
  • Experience conducting interviews, hiring new staff, and providing employee orientation.
  • Skills in setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and offering personal development advice.
